// Welding supply distributors · Welding equipment repair quotes

Welding equipment repair quotes, drafted from the bench ticket for your service manager.

A power source comes in dead, the technician writes up what the bench showed, and the quote waits until someone can sit down and turn that ticket into parts, labor and a warranty note. In a free AI proof of concept on copies of 20 to 30 tickets you already quoted, AI reads each ticket into a draft repair quote and lists what a person has to decide. Your reviewer, the person who knows your service bench best, compares each draft with the quote your shop sent.

// The one job

From a bench ticket to a quote your service manager can approve

A ticket starts at the counter: model and serial off the plate, the customer's complaint in their own words, and whether a gun, torch, cable or feeder came in with the machine. The technician adds what the bench showed and the parts it needs. Then somebody works out labor, looks up parts and prices, checks whether the machine is still in warranty and writes the quote, and while they're getting to it the customer's machine sits on your shelf.

For the test, AI reads copies of closed tickets and drafts a repair quote for each: model and serial fields, the complaint, the technician's findings, parts and labor lines with the source of each, warranty status exactly as the ticket or your records state it, and a list of what a person must decide. Your reviewer holds each draft against the quote your team actually sent.

// The hard parts

Why a warranty line takes more than a purchase date

Warranty runs by component. One maker's limited warranty, effective January 1, 2026, gives five years of parts and labor on original main power rectifiers, capacitors, stabilizers and transformers; three years on inverter power sources, PC boards and drive systems; one year on MIG guns, TIG torches and plasma cutting torches, or 90 days for industrial use; and 90 days of parts with no labor on replacement parts. That document applies only to serial numbers with a preface of NG or newer, and its clock starts at delivery to the original retail purchaser. Another maker's European statement starts at purchase, or at the date of manufacture when proof of purchase is missing. One ticket can carry lines with different answers, so the draft copies the status as stated and shows which statement it was read against.

Wear items and engines sit outside. The first warranty excludes contact tips, cutting nozzles, contactors, brushes and relays, though brushes and relays are covered on engine-driven machines, and engines and tires are warranted separately by their own manufacturers. The second names drive rolls, liners, wheels, contact tips, guide tubes and brushes as natural wear, and it's void if its maker or authorized facility finds non-original accessories or parts, an incorrect power supply or transport damage. The final call there belongs to the maker or that facility. The draft sets such lines apart and marks them for a person.

A claim needs the troubleshooting written down. Online claims under the first warranty have to describe the fault and the steps taken to diagnose it, claims missing what its service guide requires may be denied, and defects from unauthorized repair or improper testing are excluded. Transportation and freight stay with the customer. A technician's note that says replaced board tells a customer what they're paying for and tells a claims desk almost nothing, so the draft carries the findings as written and lists what the ticket leaves out.

The plate and the bench bring their own records. A rating plate on a recent power source should follow IEC 60974-1 and give the maker, supply requirements and performance. One plasma maker's service manual says its data plate carries two sets of ratings, its own from internal testing and the IEC ones, so the draft copies whichever set the ticket cites. IEC 60974-4:2025 gives test procedures for periodic inspection and for after repair, for power sources built to IEC 60974-1 or 60974-6, and says it doesn't cover new or engine-driven machines. OSHA's 29 CFR 1910.254(d)(9) has wet machines thoroughly dried and tested before use, and cables with damaged insulation or exposed conductors replaced. The draft notes whether the ticket records those items; none of this is legal or engineering advice.

What your reviewer reads for. Usually your service manager, your reviewer checks that model and serial match the write-up, that complaint and findings stayed apart and nothing was softened, that every part and labor line traces to the ticket or your price file, and that warranty says only what the ticket says. A repair-or-replace call on an older machine stays on the list of things a person decides.

01

20 to 30 closed tickets

Each ticket as the counter and technician wrote it, with plate photos if you keep them, and the quote that went out. Include a declined quote, a warranty job and one where the bench found no fault.

02

Parts and labor records

An export of parts and labor prices from those dates, or the priced lines from each job, so every number in a draft traces to something you sent.

03

The warranty statements you work from

Makers' warranty documents and service guides your shop quotes from, plus any customer terms on repair.

04

NDA first, no logins

The NDA gets signed before any ticket leaves the shop, and customer names can be masked. We never sign in to your ERP, your ticket system or a maker's service portal, and look-alike tickets are an option if originals must stay put.

// Before it starts

Settled before the first ticket is copied

A repair quote carries a price and a statement about warranty, so the owner settles these first.

// After a yes

A month on new bench tickets

If your reviewer says yes against the success criteria, new tickets go through the same drafting for about 30 days.

Your service manager reads and approves every quote before it posts anywhere or reaches a customer, and settles every open item, warranty status included.

You see a fixed price for that month before signing. Another job, if one comes after, is priced on its own.

// One hard limit

It never decides whether a repair is covered.

Drafts stop at your service manager. The proof of concept works on copies, never touches your ERP or a live ticket, never decides warranty coverage or whether a machine is safe to return to service, and never sends a quote. A service manager approves every one. Defense and aerospace work stays out of the test.

Priced per job. You get a range before the proof of concept and a fixed price before you sign.

Rob gives the range on the call, once he knows how many tickets your bench closes each month, how many makers you service, and how your parts and labor prices are kept.

// Questions

Questions from the service bench

Can it tell us whether a repair is under warranty?
No, and we don't let it try. The draft copies what your ticket or records say about warranty and lists anything unclear. Your service manager, and the maker or its authorized facility where a claim is involved, make that call.
Our technicians write tickets by hand. Does that work?
Send them as they are. A ticket the test can't read goes to your reviewer marked unread, not guessed at, and the mix shows how much handwriting the job would really have to handle.
We service several makers' machines. Do you need each one's parts catalog?
No. Prices come from your own export or the lines your shop already quoted. If a part isn't in what you sent, the line stays open instead of being priced from memory.
Will it decide whether a machine should be repaired or replaced?
No. It can show what the ticket says about parts and labor and mark a repair-or-replace question for your service manager. That call stays with your shop and your customer.
Does it need access to our ticket system or a maker's service site?
No. Tickets, quotes and price exports come to us as copies, and we never log in to your systems or a maker's portal. How drafts would reach your system on live work is scoped only after a yes.
